LAUNCH OF ADELAIDE BIODESIGN

It's been an exciting week for medtech innovation in Adelaide with the launch of the Bridgetech program, the Ausmedtech conference and now the inaugural Adelaide biodesign course launched on Thursday 3rd May featuring special guest speaker, Dr Leanna Read, Chief Scientist for South Australia!

The Perth Biodesign course has now been running for two years with great success, having now trained 53 clinicians, engineers, business professionals and researchers in the process of medical technology invention and implementation through the Stanford Biodesign methodology. The course has seen three teams go on to form start up companies, four teams receive funding towards their projects and inspired many more to pursue careers and ventures in the Medtech space.

Accelerating Australia, who funded the course in 2017 (and will run the course again in 2018) was recently committed $1 million of matched funding from MTPConnect to expand their activities, allowing Accelerating Australia to roll out the program nationally, beginning in Adelaide.

Adelaide Biodesign has been tailored to suit the environment and resources available in South Australia, and therefore differs from it’s predecessor. Instead of a 6 month course, Adelaide Biodesign runs over 12 months and incorporates the highly successful eChallenge as well as mentoring and support from the Thinclab Incubator, both provided by the University of Adelaide. Amanda Lee, course coordinator of Adelaide Biodesign, said:

“After our successful Launch Event where we hosted South Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Leanna Read, Adelaide Biodesign are very excited to commence our inaugural course next week. We’ve recruited a wonderful mix of participants and are looking forward to further nurturing the entrepreneurial and MedTech ecosystem in South Australia”.

The course kicks off very soon but if you are interested in being involved, please don’t hesitate to get in contact here!
